Ask Jenny about what to do about brittle hair.

Its that lovely time of the week, that I get to answer your questions. Today is my "Ask Jenny" post. Today's question comes from an awesome viewer named Jenni who posted a question on a previous blog post of mine. Here's what Jenni wrote in:

I just got my hair highlighted again on Friday. My hair is curly and dry/brittle. Well, the highlights have made the dry/brittle worse. When I pick it out after my shower it is very tangled and is breaking off. When dry some pieces have a lightning bolt look. Any suggestions? I feel like I need a good conditioner to help me be able to brush though it and then something to help with the damage. Thanks for
your hair advice! Love your blog. :)

Thanks for your question Jenni!! I'm excited to answer it for you. First of all...OUCH!! Sounds like your hair has been a little over processed, but don't worry, there are a few things you can do to get your hair back in a good or descent shape. Highlights from bleach or high lift color is one of the most damaging things you can do to your hair. Yes, I'm sure your blonde locks look amazing, but it's unfortunately very damaging to your hair. On top of that, curly hair tends to be more on the frizzy, dryer side as it is. But luckily for you, there are tons of wonderful products out there in the market.

Now, with that...I only speak for products I live, breath, and love. I'm sure there are many wonderful hair care products, but I'm a master at the ones I touch and use daily. You want to make sure you start off with a good hair regimen. Are you using professional grade hair care products? There is a huge difference between professional grade and grocery store grade. I will save differences for a different post. ;)  With super hot blonde locks, our hair tends to be dry, so use something ultra hydrating like Keratase shampoo and conditioner. Depending on how dry your hair actually is, you could get away with Keratase Bain Satin 2 shampoo and their Lait vital condioner. This is for normal to dry hair.

If you feel like you hair is dryer than normal to dry, go for the gold and get the Keratase Bain Nutri-Thermique shampoo and the Nurtritive Fondant Nutri-thermique conditner which is a bit heavier than the Bain Satin line. But just as amazing!

I also would recommend using a Fibre Architecte for an every day treatment. This stuff is flipping unreal, and has saved my hair in so many ways. Its heat activated, but it actually helps strengthen and repair weakened hair. Its my blonde hair MUST have product!! Use a pump or two on towel dried hair and blow dry in. You'll notice instant results.

OK, so now your know what products I'd recommend. Now, if your hair is having a hard time brushing through, try brushing your hair while in the shower with conditioner on it. This way it isnt' so harsh on your already weakened hair. Also, get your trims on a regular basis. Short to medium 4-6 weeks, medium to long 6-8 weeks. I hope I answered your question and thanks again for being a follower. I really appreciate it!! Let me know if this helps.
