Chocolate Hair Shake

My name is Jenny, and I'm a Chocoholic. Yup, I am addicted to Chocolate! I love it! I am one of those people that I have to have a sweet right after lunch or dinner and I usually go straight for the chocolate. Well, these days I'm trying to lose pregnancy weight. I'm 8 weeks post partum and I still have 16 pounds to go. For some reason it is taking FOREVER and a day to shed. Since I'm trying to kick my pregnancy weight gains butt, I decided I can't go grab just any chocolate or sweets. I'm in need of some healthy alternatives.

Awhile ago I came across the vegan soft serve recipe on pinterest. Basically its frozen bananas and cacao powder blended. I started to experiment with a few staple foods that I always have readily available in my food pantry to make this vegan soft serve have more kick. I don't know about you, but I'm the nerd that researches on what foods do what for my body. I just love when I'm eating something healthy and I know that its doing some good for my body. If you're anything like me, you will love drinking this yummy shake knowing that its not only chocolaty delicious, but benefits your locks. Read below to get the scoop on my yummy, healthy hair shake.

  • 1c Almond Milk
  • 2 cut up frozen bananas (cut in 1-2inch pieces)
  • 2tbsp Cacao Powder
  • 1tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1scoop Vega Smoothie Mix
  • 1tbsp almond butter
  • 1tsp Agave

Put all your ingredients in a blender and blend away. Serves 2
Note: (I picked up all these ingredients up at my local Whole Foods)

Now, there are tons of amazing health benefits of all the foods listed above, but I went ahead and I'm filling you in on why these yummy ingredients benefit your hair.

  • Almond milk has anti-aging properties, antioxidants, hydrates the skin and hair.
  • Bananas are rich in silica which is known to thicken the hair.
  • Cacao Powder is high in the mineral Sulfur which helps form strong hair and is loaded with antioxidants.
  • Organic Coconut Oil is used daily by model Miranda Kerr for healthy hair and nails. Need I say more?
  • Vega Mix is loaded with plant protein, flax seeds and hemp seeds which they contain a lot of Omega 3's which is great for a healthy scalp.
  • Almond butter is obviously rich in protein so it helps strengthen your hair inside to out. Your hair is made up of protein so you need to eat lots of it.
  • Raw Organic Agave is simply for taste. It has an extremely low glycemic index and is super yummy.

So what are you waiting for? Go grab your grocery bags and head to your local health store so you too can make this healthy treat at home and help grow some luscious locks. Do you have a recipe similar to this you would like to share?
